Does "scarless" mean no scar anywhere inside?

It means no cut on the abdomen — nothing visible from outside. The operation still happens through the vagina, which is a natural passage rather than a wound that needs to heal on the skin.

Is everyone a candidate for the vaginal route?

No — it depends on the size of the uterus and your surgical history. An examination and scan will confirm whether it suits you.

Will my periods stop?

Yes, since the uterus is removed. Whether you go into menopause depends on whether the ovaries are also removed, which is a separate decision.

Scarless uterus removal: the vaginal route explained

"Scarless" means no cut on the abdomen at all. In a vaginal hysterectomy, the uterus is removed entirely through the vagina — the same natural passage used for childbirth — so there is nothing to see from the outside afterwards, and no abdominal wound to heal.

Who this suits

A vaginal approach is generally possible when the uterus is not too enlarged and there has not been extensive previous abdominal surgery causing significant scarring. Whether it is right for you depends on an examination and a scan — some situations that would rule out a vaginal approach can still be managed laparoscopically, so a "no" to vaginal does not mean an open abdominal cut is the only alternative. What the day involves

Before: an examination and scan to confirm the vaginal route is suitable, and a discussion of whether the ovaries are being removed or left in place.
The operation is carried out under anaesthesia, in the hospital's own operating theatre, with 100% disposable instruments.
Afterwards: most patients stay one to two nights before going home.

Recovery

Because there is no abdominal wound, recovery from a vaginal hysterectomy is generally faster and more comfortable than from an open operation — most women are back to light activity within two to three weeks. Some vaginal bleeding or discharge for a few weeks is normal; heavy bleeding, fever, or severe pain are not, and should be reported to us straight away.

What it does not change

The operation removes the uterus only; if the ovaries are left in place, as is usual unless there is a specific reason to remove them, they continue to function and periods simply stop without triggering menopause. This is the same regardless of which of the three routes is used — vaginal, laparoscopic or open.
